Rent It

What to do before you sign a lease.

You are here: Home / Get Your Housing / Rent It

You have found a place to live – congratulations!

But there’s still a lot to do before you have a new home. Such as:

  • Read and understand your lease before you sign it. Your lease is a legal agreement between you and your landlord about your apartment. Your lease and Indiana law determine your rights when you are renting from a private landlord.
  • Will you have a roommate? Learn the pros and cons of a sharing a place.
  • Why you should complete a move-in sheet with the property manager—and take lots of photos.
  • Arrange for any utilities you will be paying for, and pay a utility deposit.
