For the first time, data from Prosperity Indiana and the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s annual Indiana state release of ‘The Gap’ report is now available by state legislative district. Legislators can now have specific data about the lack of affordable and available housing and rates of severe housing cost burden for the most vulnerable renter households in their districts. However, they will need community members, stakeholders, and advocates to help bring this new data to their attention to aid with their decision-making.
Find below interactive maps that show for each state* House and Senate district:
- The number of Extremely Low-Income (ELI) renter households at or below 30% Area Median Income (AMI)
- The rate of affordable and available rental units per 100 ELI renter households at or below 30% AMI
- The number of ELI renter households with severe housing cost burden (meaning they pay more than half of household income on housing costs, a warning indicator of housing instability and homelessness)
- The rate of ELI renter households with severe housing cost burden
(for Indiana’s federal legislative districts, see NLIHC’s Indiana Congressional District Housing Profiles)
How to use these maps:
- First, find your Indiana legislators. Then, scroll your cursor over the district. The top number displayed is the district number. The bottom number is the statistic measured for that district for each map.
